On property belonging to the NC Upper Piedmont Research Station, the 1.7-mile loop winds through old-growth forest, skirts two ponds, and follows the fence lines of pastures where a prized Black Angus herd grazes. Crops are tested in fields alongside farm roads once used as carriage trails by the wealthy owners of Chinqua-Penn Plantation. Remnants of their lavish parties linger in structures built of locally quarried stone. Many birds, insects, amphibians, and small mammals call this home.

Lake Reidsville offers the best in outdoor recreation. Kayaking, fishing, skiing, boating, disc golf, and paddleboats are just few of the activities available that make it the perfect choice for a recreational getaway. Smaller than Lake Reidsville, Lake Hunt provides a private getaway for water and nature lovers. Spend the day fishing with a friend or just enjoying the view. Rolling Ridge Riding is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing FREE therapy based horseback riding and educational tutoring/instruction to physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged children in Rockingham County and surrounding areas.Rolling Ridge Riding’s goal is to try to maximize the potential of all the children it serves in a fun, safe environment. Secondly, Rolling Ridge Riding provides a resource for youth and adult volunteer service programs. Rolling Ridge Riding was started in 2000 by a pediatric physical therapist.
