The park covers just over 2,700 acres in several access areas stretching along the 16-mile-long river corridor. The 400-acre Mayo Mountain access serves as the park’s interim headquarters. This access features a pavilion-style picnic shelter, a small picnic area, fishing ponds, hiking trails, restrooms, and the park office. Group camping is available for organized groups.

Farris Memorial Park is over 270 acres of open land, forests, and athletic fields that offer a variety of recreational activities. The park includes 2 baseball fields, 2 soccer fields, two fishing ponds (Large pond on main side of park is accessible. Small pond behind park house has limited fishing and is not accessible on a daily basis), an amphitheater, four picnic shelters, tennis courts, walking trails, concession stand and the only public Mountain Bike Trail in western Rockingham County. For the golfer you can pull out your driver and knock some golf balls on our driving range, or if your short game needs work, try your hand on our putt-putt course! Clubs and balls are available for rent. If disc golf is more your speed, the park also offers a 19 hole course with discs available for rent. Our latest addition is a three mile Mountain Bike Trail. The trail ride takes you through switchbacks, over rock gardens, and small streams. Most of the trail runs through hardwood and mixed pine forest. Bring your own bike – or you can rent a bike for a nominal fee. There are even youth-sized bikes available!

Mayo Mountain Loop trail begins at the picnic shelter parking lot in the Mayo River State Park. This is a 2-mile loop trail up and over Mayo Mountain. This trail goes takes you through a mixed hardwood forest with seasonal views of Cedar Mountain and along a creek that feeds our 2 fishing ponds. For those less adventurous, the 2-mile loop can be shortened into a 0.5-mile loop trail.

Our tasting room is nestled in the beautiful hills of Rockingham County. we offer tastings and a scenic porch on which to sip, relax and chat chat awhile. We also offer lodging cabins and event facilities, including a wedding venue.
