Charlie and Ed Shelton, natives of Mt, Airy, NC established the Vineyards and were also responsible for petitioning the federal government for American Viticultural Area recognition for North Carolina’s first AVA, The Yadkin Valley that was approved in 2003. Through their hard work and dedication to their state and community they have helped to put North Carolina back on the map as one of the top wine – producing states in the nation.

Access Fisher River at Hamlin Ford Road

Located in Dobson Square Park, the splash pad provides fun for kids of all ages! The splash pad is open Monday through Friday from mid-May to mid-September each year. Admission is free!

The Center serves the grape and wine industry, not only NC, but the entire Southeast by providing workforce training and industry support. It houses a state-of-the-art commercially bonded winery. The $5 Million-dollar complex is used to teach winery and includes innovative crusing technologies, fermentation and barrel storage areas where students make, bottle, label and learn to market the wine they produce. Their wines are sold at many locations in NC. The facility hosts the yearly Southeastern United Grape and Wine Symposium.

The 85-acre farm has 9 acres of vineyards. The Winery was completed in 2018 and the tasting room opened in 2019.

Located in Dobson on the banks of the picturesque Fisher River, Surry County’s Fisher River Park offers a wide variety of outdoor activities.  Fisher River Park provides an array of playing fields. The park features one baseball field and two softball fields, one regulation soccer field, and one pee wee soccer field. Also available is a volleyball court, basketball court, and a horseshoe pit. In addition, a 1/4 mile paved walking trail and a challenging mountain bike trail are also offered. For those who wish to simply relax and enjoy the outdoors, Fisher River Park offers several picnic shelters for large and small groups. An amphitheater is also located in the park, and for the kids, the park provides two playgrounds for children of all ages. Paddle access to the Fisher River is also available.

Stony Knoll is steeped in history dating back to 1896 when it was a tobacco farm for the ancestors of Kathy Coe. In the late 1990’s Van Coe started planting grapes (5.25 acres): Cabernet, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Niagra. The tasting room and winery opened in 2004 and today there are 10 acres of vines and now includes Merlot, Chambourcin, Viognier, Arandell, and Corot Noir. They also have the Stony Knoll Vineyards Wine Lodge (an original structure built in 1850 – renovated cabin) that sleeps 5 guests.
