<p>The lake is 1,542 acres and is adjacent to the Bryan Park Complex and Golf Course off Highway 29 North near Greensboro. A large boat ramp is available for private boat launching, with another launch ramp for small sailboats. Kayaks and rowboats are available to rent. Sailboats can be rented with previous sailing experience. Popular fish include largemouth bass, hybrid bass, striped bass, catfish, and crappie. The lake has a fishing pier, parking and restrooms that can be reasonably accessed by someone using a mobility device. No swimming or wading is allowed at Lake Townsend or any of the Greensboro City Lakes.</p>

<p>Blue Heron offers an extension of the Reedy Fork trail via N. Church Street. The&nbsp;Piedmont Fat Tire Society&nbsp;began work on constructing Blue Heron spring 2009. The trail skirts along the shore line of beautiful Lake Townsend. There is plenty of variety too as the trail leads you out of the woods for multiple power line crossings. A few sections have deep gullies and dips that are fun to blast through and out of on your bike. Blue Heron flows great and is relatively easy for any rider or hiker to tackle.</p>
