The North Carolina Zoo is nestled on 2,600 wooded acres in the heart of North Carolina, just south of Asheboro. With 500 developed acres, it is the world’s largest natural habitat zoo and one of two state-supported zoos. In addition to providing encounters with wild animals living in natural settings, the North Carolina Zoo offers down-to-earth, authentic, and memorable ways for families to play and stay together. The Zoo also provides a variety of nature-based educational programs and camps. Discover gorillas and lions in Africa and Bobcats and Black Bears in North America without leaving the NC Triad. McCrary Park has a lighted field with restrooms (Closed During Winter Months), and a concession stand. This field is home of the Asheboro High School, American Legion, and Asheboro ZooKeeper’s (formerly the Copperheads) Baseball teams.

Kiwanis Park has two lighted ball fields (Darrell Rich Field & Wayne Thomas Field), has restrooms (Closed During Winter Months), concession stand, and a picnic shelter.

The Caraway Creek Preserve is the second preserve managed by the Piedmont Land Conservancy. This 167-acre preserve offers three loop trails with access sites along Caraway Creek: Burl Trail (0.6 miles), Laurel Loop Trail (1 mile), and Caraway Forest Trail (0.7 miles).

The park as a whole was built to provide additional recreational opportunities for the citizens of the City of Asheboro and surrounding communities. The park includes the swimming pool, playground, tennis courts, picnic shelter, baseball field and passive areas.

City Fields has two lighted ball fields (Luther Field & Leon Yow Field), has restrooms (Closed During Winter Months), and a concession stand.
