In the late 1800’s, Curran Alexander Snider and his wife Frances purchased a partially built home and tract of land in the Reeds community of Davidson County, NC where the Curran Alexander Vineyards is located. Interestingly, the home was purchased from a local liquor distiller who had fled to Missouri to avoid paying taxes on their product. Curran and Frances completed the construction of the home on the farmland and raised eight children there while growing tobacco, corn, wheat, and vegetables. In 2001, recognizing the land was well suited for planting European vinifera wine grapes, their decedents (direct decedents of Curran and Frances) planted their first vineyards with the goals of making excellent wines that exhibit the character of the land, honoring the legacy (and hard work) of Curran, Frances, and their children and maintaining the agricultural heritage of the land. The winery grows European varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio. They partner with Childress Vineyards to actually makes their wines and then ships them back to their vineyard where they have a tasting room and sales area.
