Lakes
Living the lake life in the NC Triad is easy. With lakes, both natural and man-made, and stocked for fishing or designed for pleasure cruising and sport, the region has a waterfront to suit every craft and water lover.
Low Lake Wakes Make for Great Stays
Winston-Salem’s Salem Lake extends over 350-acres and is regularly stocked with smallmouth bass. Allowing boats up to 60-HP, including sailboats, kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes, it’s a great fishing and pleasure-boating destination within city limits.
Slightly smaller but just as tempting if you like to cast a line or cruise, Lake Higgins in Greensboro also offers fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing. Greensboro’s Lake Brandt is another gem within the Greensboro city limits. This 816-acre reservoir is stocked with crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish. It has a landing where kayaks, canoes, and rowboats are available for rental.
Close to High Point and very recently established is Randleman Lake. Surrounded by almost 3,00 acres of pristine wilderness, the 100 miles of shoreline are restricted to fishing and non-motorized boating. Canoers, kayakers, and small-mast sailors will find a pristine place to explore the natural beauty of the NC Triad.
Lakes Where Speed Is Welcome
Also in High Point is a lake where jet skis and speed boats own the water. Covering more than 800 acres, Oak Hollow Lake has more than 100 sites families can rent to reserve opportunities for sailing, skiing, fishing, or pleasure boating. There’s also an outdoor tennis center and picnic areas overlooking the lake.
At almost 4,000 acres, Belews Lake near Stokesdale is a great site for full-time lake life. While sport fishing for large and smallmouth bass is available on the lake, recreation is this lake’s lifeblood. Jet skis and speedboats regularly circle the lake, and pontoons set anchor for an afternoon of fun in the sun.
The Diverse Uwharrie
The Yadkin and Pee Dee rivers are dammed within the Uwharrie National Forest, creating lakes that offer everything from casual opportunities for fishing to wide-open areas for speed boats and jet skis. With any number of launches and rental companies, visitors who want to float their own boats or secure a speedboat for the weekend have multiple options that enable them to enjoy the waterways of the NC Triad.
